The heavenly Srimathi Yogambal Ammaiyar who hailed from the holy village of Anandathandavapuram and lived her life as a sage travelled to many parts of the country. One fine day she arrived at Sri Vaishnavi Temple at Thirumullaivoyal, Chennai she stayed there and performed her daily pooja & meditation.

One-night Shri Karumari Amman appeared in Sri Yogambal Ammaiyar’s dream and commanded her to come to Thiruverkadu where even today, her temple stands tall and proud. While staying in Thiruverkadu she witnessed many of the miracles of the divine goddess Karumari Amman by her side.

On the auspicious Purnima day (full moon) a big black serpent appeared near her head and then suddenly disappeared. Sri Yogambal Ammayar realised that she had reached the final stage of her life and conveyed that she will attain Samadhi on a Purnima day.

On 22nd May 1967, early in the morning after she performed her routine pooja.  At 5:30 am in the morning during her meditation, the devotees who surrounded her were chanting the Jeeva Ubaadhai Neekudhal from Devaram – which is a divine poem- written by Thirugnana Sambandar. The soul of Sri Yogambal Ammayar had reached the goddess feet.

After performing all the rituals her cremation was done in Thiruverkadu on the auspicious Vaikasi Visaka Purnima day Shri N. Sankaran Son of Smt. Punithavathi Yogambal Ammaiyar went to the crematory to collect the ashes and other residuals for the rituals and found that her Saree, Thirumangalyam  & Ring (Metti) were not touched by the fire during the cremation, and it was left intact. He collected all the divine items as a Poovadai Pavithram and placed it in a new pot and performed the necessary pooja and continued the rituals.

When Sri N. Sankaran was preparing for a Kasi yatra along with the Poovadai Pavithram, Godess Karumari Amman appeared in his dream and ordered him not to take the Poovadai Pavithram to Kasi.

On 5th August 1967 Shri N. Sankaran had reached out to Kanchi Kamakoti Acharya Shri Chandrasekharendra Mahaswamigal at Rajahmundry and explained the happenings. During this conversation Maha Periyava explained that the eternal soul of Sri Yogambal Ammayar has reached its divine destination and he advised him to construct an Adhishtanam using the Poovadai Pavithram.
